Quilter’s Planner Weekly Blocks: Wk 1

A new year. New projects. New Quilts! And a brandy new Quilter’s Planner!

Every week there is anew block as well as a quilting motif to try. I’m hoping to work through all 52 weeks and all 52 blocks.

One of my goals for 2017 is to participate in the art abandonment movement and leave small quilts in a variety of places. I think these blocks, quilted with the featured design and finished properly, would make great candidates.

So, without further ado, Week 1. Block “Unnamed”

A tutorial for this block can be found at JollyandDelilahQuilts. And a supplemental tutorial can be found at Gnome Angel.

I really like these large blocks. The smaller blacks were made using the triangles left over from the initial block. Together they would make an interesting composition.
Once I quilt these, I’ll post more photos.

A brand new website and new adventures! Welcome!

In October I received a stack of blocks made by my late mother-in-law Thelma. There were 44 Maple Leaf blocks in a variety of interesting prints.

I used all but 5 blocks, leaving out the “loudest” of the bunch. All the others were made with floral prints in much more muted tones.

I experimented with quilting each block on its own, adding in sashing to connect the blocks and then quilting in the ditch to connect the backing.

I pieced a back with two additional blocks and a light floral print.

I think my M-I-L would like it and be proud that it was finished. All it needs is it’s binding which I have, a nice deep dark green. It will feel good to snuggle under it with my hubby.

The Hands Across the Valley Quilt Guild’s bi-annual quilt show  is fast approaching. I need to get my entry bound and ready for hanging.

New henna fun!

I love sugar skulls and Dia de Los Muertos stuff. My hubby free handed this one for me.

Pretty flowers all down the forearm.

Farmer’s Market Ideas

Another market season is fast approaching. Time to get inventory in order. I’ve added some new items this year. One new set of items are these mason jar pin-cushions.

These are great to have on hand while hand sewing or to take with you for travel sewing. Toss in those items you need most like needles, thread, nippers and such. Keep track of thread clippings and tiny scraps to dispose of later.
